Gana mucho dinero, ahora

No aceptes ninguna oferta inesperada.

Americans are deeply invested in their finances.

Americans are deeply invested in their finances. It is how many people survive day to day and one of the means people use to “make it” in this country. However, when doing the calculations for gains minus costs, many people have come to find themselves coming up disappointed. According to Gallup, approximately 50% of people say they are worse off than a year ago. This has led to much uncertainty among most people about what the future will bring about.

There are many reasons why people feel discouraged. According to the article, Opinion|Why Americans are so pessimistic about their finances, by Catherine Rampell, the malaise is centered around costs. Specifically, day-to-day costs such as groceries or gas, which have all increased in price because of inflation. The article explores the subject by paying attention to a group of families and how the prices on their receipts have changed over the years. Overall, everything has increased in price. To quote, “The prices of many frequently purchased items have increased, ranging from 2 percent to 115 percent.” It should be noted that this is also supplemented by costs such as rent, taxes and bills, which have all been exacerbated by inflation. Even so, it should be noted that people have not been affected equally.

During this period of recession, the poor have gotten poorer and the rich even richer. According to Gallop, 61% of lower-income people have reported being “worse of” than last year, while the upper-income bracket stands at just 43%. In addition, the Washington Post reported that households which earn $20K annually reported that for every $1 that they earn, they are spending $4.03. This is while households that earn $150k annually work at an income-to-spending rate of $1 earned to $0.45 spent. That is a 9 times differential between the 2 ratios.

Even so, some people still have hope. According to the article by Gallup, even though most people are pessimistic about the following months, most people are optimistic for the next year. According to the article 60% of people are looking forward to next year for better prospects for themselves. However it should be noted that Americans have had positive outlooks since 1977. From all of this we see how people have struggled with the increasing price of living, and in truth it seems like a trend that will continue. Despite that, there remains optimism that things may become better.

IRS reminds taxpayers of April estimated tax payment deadline

IRS reminds taxpayers of April estimated tax payment deadline

IRS YouTube Videos
Estimated Tax Payments – English | Spanish | ASL

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today reminded people that Tax Day, April 18, is also the deadline for first quarter estimated tax payments for tax year 2023.

These payments are normally made by self-employed individuals, retirees, investors, businesses, corporations and others that do not have taxes withheld or employees that don’t have enough taxes withheld by their employers throughout the year.

Income taxes are a pay-as-you-go process. This means, by law, taxes must be paid as income is earned or received during the year. Most people pay their taxes through withholding from paychecks, pension payments, Social Security benefits or certain other government payments including unemployment compensation.

Most often, those who are self-employed or in the gig economy need to make estimated tax payments. Similarly, investors, retirees and others often need to make these payments because a substantial portion of their income is not subject to withholding.

Other income generally not subject to withholding includes interest, dividends, capital gains, alimony and rental income. Paying quarterly estimated taxes will usually lessen and may even eliminate any penalties.

Exceptions to the penalty and special rules apply to some groups of taxpayers, such as farmers and fishers, those who recently became disabled, recent retirees, those who receive income unevenly during the year and casualty and disaster victims.

Due to recent disasters, eligible taxpayers in California, Alabama and Georgia, for example, have until Oct. 16, 2023, to make 2023 estimated tax payments, normally due on April 18, June 15 and Sept. 15. People in other states may have extended deadlines as well; a full list is available on a special IRS.gov page.

How to pay estimated taxes
Form 1040-ES, Estimated Tax for Individuals, includes instructions to help taxpayers figure their estimated taxes. They can also visit IRS.gov/payments to pay electronically.

The best way to make a payment is through IRS online account. There taxpayers can see their payment history, any pending payments and other useful tax information. Taxpayers can make an estimated tax payment by using IRS Direct PayDebit Card, Credit Card or Digital Wallet; or the Treasury Department's Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS).

For information on other payment options, visit IRS.gov/payments. If paying by check, taxpayers should be sure to make the check payable to the "United States Treasury."

Publication 505, Tax Withholding and Estimated Tax, has additional details, including worksheets and examples, that can be especially helpful to those who have dividend or capital gain income, owe alternative minimum tax or self-employment tax, or have other special situations.

Tax Withholding Estimator
The IRS urges people to use its Tax Withholding Estimator tool to help ensure the right amount of tax is withheld from their paychecks.

Checking taxes withheld periodically helps to protect against having too little tax withheld and possibly facing an unexpected tax bill or penalty at tax time. It also allows people to check taxes withheld up front, resulting in bigger paychecks throughout the year and likely a smaller refund at tax time.

IRS.gov assistance 24/7
Tax help is available 24/7 on IRS.gov. The IRS website offers a variety of online tools to help taxpayers answer common tax questions. For example, taxpayers can search the Interactive Tax AssistantTax Topics and Frequently Asked Questions to get answers to common questions.

The IRS is continuing to expand ways to communicate to taxpayers who prefer to get information in other languages. The IRS has posted translated tax resources in 20 other languages on IRS.gov. For more information, see We Speak Your Language.

FTC Action Leads to Lifetime Industry Ban for Operators of ‘Extended Vehicle Warranty’ Scam

As a result of a Federal Trade Commission lawsuit, the operators of a telemarketing scam that called hundreds of thousands of consumers nationwide to pitch them expensive “extended automobile warranties” will face a lifetime ban from the extended automobile warranty industry and from all outbound telemarketing.

Under the terms of proposed court orders, three companies and their owners that were charged by the FTC with running the operation that scammed consumers out of millions of dollars would be permanently banned from participating in the extended automobile warranty market, as well as from any further involvement in outbound telemarketing.

“AVP misled consumers about who they were and what they were selling and called a large number of consumers who were on the FTC’s Do Not Call List,” said Samuel Levine, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “Today’s order banning five defendants from the industry and imposing a monetary judgment of $6.6 million continues the Commission’s aggressive crackdown on telemarketing fraud.”

The FTC first charged the owners and operators of American Vehicle Protection Corporation (AVP) with violating the FTC Act and the Telemarketing Sales Rule in February 2022. In its complaint, the FTC charged that AVP made unsolicited calls in which it claimed to be affiliated with vehicle makers, and deceptively claimed their products, which cost thousands of dollars, offered “bumper to bumper” protection.

American Vehicle Protection Corp.; CG3 Solutions, Inc.; and Tony Gonzalez Consulting Group,Inc., along with individual defendants, Tony Allen Gonzalez, and his brother, Charles Gonzalez, have agreed to the terms of the proposed court orders.

The orders also include a monetary judgment of $6.6 million, which is largely suspended based on their inability to pay. If the defendants are found to have lied to the FTC about the financial status, the full judgment would be immediately payable.

The FTC’s case against the remaining defendants in the case, Kole Consulting Group, Inc., and its owner and manager, Daniel Kole, will continue.

The Commission vote approving the stipulated final orders was 3-0-1, with Commissioner Christine S. Wilson not participating. The FTC filed the proposed order in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

NOTE: Stipulated final orders have the force of law when approved and signed by the District Court judge.

The staff attorneys on this matter are Harold Kirtz, Hans Clausen, and Chris Gleason of the FTC’s Southeast Region.

Dark blue banner with red stripes pointing to an illustrated document with bold text, "FORM I-9".

Temporary Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR) Status Documentation

Red speech bubble with bold text, "Important!".

USCIS field offices recently started delivering Forms I‑94 with ADIT (temporary I‑551) stamps as temporary evidence of LPR status without requiring an in‑person appearance at the field office. With this new operational process, USCIS has added more ways for applicants to obtain proof of status. This alternate Form I‑94 with an ADIT stamp is an acceptable List A receipt for Form I‑9 and E‑Verify.

How will the new process be different?

When LPRs call the USCIS Contact Center to request temporary evidence of status, an immigration services officer will verify their identity, physical mailing address, and if that address can receive UPS or FedEx express mail. The officer will then either create an in‑person appointment if needed or submit a request to the field office to initiate the creation of the temporary evidence. If an in‑person appointment is not needed, a USCIS field office will then review the request for temporary evidence and mail the applicant a Form I‑94 with ADIT stamp, DHS seal and a printed photo of the LPR obtained from USCIS systems.

What will this receipt look like?

On the “delivery” Form I‑94 with ADIT stamp, the LPR’s printed photo is located at the top right portion of the Form I‑94. Alternately, the photo on a “in person” Form I‑94 ADIT stamp is affixed to the top left portion of the Form I‑94. Both documents are acceptable for Form I‑9, Employment Eligibility Verification, purposes. The Form I‑94 will continue to have the DHS seal over the ADIT stamp and the photo.

Examples of Form I-94 with Photo (ADIT stamp in-person)
""

How is this document treated for employment eligibility verification purposes?

This document is an acceptable List A receipt for Form I‑551, Permanent Resident Card.

What if the LPR has issues with the delivery or use of this document?

For questions or concerns about the request for, use of, or status of a request for a Form I‑94 with a with ADIT (temporary I‑551) stamp, call the USCIS Contact Center at 800‑375‑5283 or 800‑767‑1833 (TDD for the hearing impaired).
