As the trial of ex-CEO of FTX, Sam Bankman-fried, comes to an end with the man most likely facing life in prison, it might be to our benefit to reflect on it. FTX was a company that conned almost 9 billion from its clients. Sam's closest friends and loved ones have testified against him during the trial. And naturally, the government has been pushing for a severe sentence to work as a deterrent against further misdeeds in the crypto market.
The crypto market is appealing to a lot of people for the same reason used to be a role model. People in general did not understand the underlying mechanics of the industries involved, so they were able to be manipulated into believing something that wasn't true. The fantasy of being able to make it big is a powerful one in America. So when people saw a way to to just that, many did not look before jumping in. However, now that the dream is over, many people have to deal with the consequences.
It is because of stories of entities like FTX that we need to be careful about who we trust in business. When dealing with crypto, one has to be sure they know with whom they are working with, and what their motives may be. Otherwise, we take the risk of being taken advantage of, and losing what little we may have.
