Este Halloween, no te dejes pillar por los estafadores

 

Halloween ya casi está aquí. ¿Qué podría ser más aterrador que no tener listo tu disfraz? ¿Qué te parece encargar un disfraz en internet y no recibir nunca lo que has pagado? Los estafadores están haciendo que esta temporada sea aún más espeluznante haciéndose pasar por compañías reales como Spirit Halloween y Party City. Pero todo es un truco. A continuación, lo que hay que saber.

Ves un anuncio en Facebook o Instagram que parece ser de una compañía como Spirit Halloween o Party City que promociona una gran liquidación con un “90% de descuento” sobre el stock del año pasado. Puede parecer un trato increíble, pero es un anuncio falso publicado por estafadores. Y si haces una orden de pedido, terminarás recibiendo un artículo falsificado, usado, o dañado o algo completamente distinto a lo que pediste… o nada de nada.

Así que, si estás buscando disfraces, decoraciones o souvenirs para Halloween ¿cómo haces para detectar a los impostores?

• Tienes que saber que los estafadores pueden publicar anuncios que parecen de una compañía real usando el mismo nombre y logotipo, aunque en realidad no sean legítimos. Si ves un anuncio de una compañía que conoces, pero no estás seguro de que sea un anuncio real, visita el sitio web de la compañía usando un enlace que te conste que es oficial y no el enlace que figura en el anuncio.
• Fíjate en las opiniones de otras personas en internet. Haz una búsqueda en línea ingresando el nombre de la compañía y la palabra “scam”; si haces la búsqueda en español reemplázala con “estafa”. Es posible que otra persona haya sufrido la experiencia de un estafador que se hace pasar por una compañía real.
• Paga con tarjeta de crédito. Si te efectuaron un cargo a tu tarjeta por un pedido que no recibiste nunca, o por un producto que no corresponde al anuncio, comunícate con la compañía emisora de tu tarjeta de crédito y disputa el cargo.

DHS continúa con las repatriaciones directas de ciudadanos venezolanos

WASHINGTON — Hoy, Estados Unidos, liderado por el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS), con el apoyo del Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas (ICE) y de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza de EE.UU., facilitó un segundo vuelo chárter a Venezuela para expulsar a personas sin base legal para permanecer en los EE.UU. Esto se suma a los frecuentes vuelos de expulsión de ICE en todo el hemisferio y en todo el mundo y a las continuas expulsiones de venezolanos a México. El DHS continúa haciendo cumplir las leyes de inmigración de los Estados Unidos al tiempo que fortalece las sanciones para quienes cruzan nuestra frontera ilegalmente. Desde mayo de 2023, el DHS ha expulsado o devuelto a más de 300.000 no ciudadanos, incluidos más de 45.000 miembros de unidades familiares individuales.  “Esta Administración ha llevado a cabo la mayor expansión de vías legales en décadas, y seguimos imponiendo consecuencias según la ley para quienes no aprovechan esas vías”, dijo la subsecretaria interina de Seguridad Nacional, Kristie Canegallo . “Nadie debería escuchar las mentiras de los contrabandistas; Las personas que crucen irregularmente estarán sujetas a expulsión si no tienen una base legal para permanecer y perderán la capacidad de beneficiarse de vías legales”.  "Por primera vez, el Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas de Estados Unidos puede repatriar a ciudadanos venezolanos de regreso a su país de origen en el caso de aquellos que no tienen una base legal para permanecer en Estados Unidos", dijo el subdirector y alto funcionario que desempeña las funciones del Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas de Estados Unidos. Director Patrick J. Lechleitner . "Este es un tremendo paso adelante en la capacidad de la agencia para fortalecer las consecuencias para los migrantes que cruzan nuestra frontera ilegalmente".  “El mensaje de CBP para cualquiera que esté pensando en ingresar ilegalmente a Estados Unidos por la frontera sur es simple: no lo hagas. Cuando los migrantes cruzan la frontera ilegalmente, ponen sus vidas en peligro”, dijo el alto funcionario en funciones del comisionado Troy A. Miller. “La CBP continuará imponiendo consecuencias, incluso preparándose para repatriaciones directas a Venezuela. Las personas y familias que no tengan una base legal para permanecer en Estados Unidos serán expulsadas, tal como lo hemos hecho con la reanudación de los vuelos de expulsión a Venezuela”. Los no ciudadanos, incluidos los venezolanos, que carezcan de una base legal para permanecer en Estados Unidos serán expulsados, de conformidad con la ley estadounidense. Desenmascarando a vendedores de falsas declaraciones sobre prevención de COVID-19

Aunque la emergencia de salud pública causada por el COVID-19 ha terminado, la Comisión Federal de Comercio (FTC) sigue persiguiendo a los malhechores que engañan a la gente con declaraciones sobre el poder de prevención de enfermedades de sus productos. El caso en cuestión: los vendedores de The 1 Virus Buster Invisible Mask, producto también anunciado como The 1 Virus Buster Card, afirman que su producto ofrece una barrera invisible de protección de tres pies de distancia contra el 99.99% de las enfermedades transmitidas por el aire, incluido el COVID-19. ¿Difícil de creer? En el último caso de la FTC relacionado con declaraciones falsas sobre el COVID, los fabricantes de The Invisible Mask dijeron que su producto protegía a la gente contra el COVID-19 y otras enfermedades con 30 días de protección transmitida por el aire.  Pero en la demanda de la FTC se indica que las personas y compañías responsables de esas declaraciones carecen de pruebas científicas para fundamentar sus declaraciones de prevención. La FTC también señalan que los demandados dijeron que Invisible Mask era un producto aprobado por la FDA, pero eso no es cierto.

La orden judicial propuesta les prohíbe a los demandados hacer más declaraciones infundadas y les ordena efectuar un pago, lo cual incluye devolver una parte del dinero a las personas que engañaron.

Cuando se trata de detectar declaraciones infundadas sobre la prevención, el tratamiento o la cura del COVID-19 y otros problemas de salud:

• Habla con tu médico. Si tienes curiosidad por un producto que afirma que cura cualquier enfermedad, consulta a tu médico o proveedor de atención médica sobre su efectividad.
• Mantente informado. Para encontrar fuentes de información confiables sobre enfermedades y sus tratamientos, visita MedlinePlus.gov, un sitio web operado por los Institutos Nacionales de Salud (NIH) y Healthfinder.gov.

• Ten en cuenta que los productos y tratamientos no probados podrían ser peligrosos. Usar productos no probados podría llevarte a abandonar o demorar tratamientos médicos probados indicados por el profesional a cargo del cuidado de tu salud. Los productos no probados también podrían causar interacciones perjudiciales con tus medicamentos u otros productos que estés toman.

Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) announced a Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) that identifies international Convertible Virtual Currency Mixing (CVC mixing) as a class of transactions of primary money laundering concern. This NPRM highlights the risks posed by the extensive use of CVC mixing services by a variety of illicit actors throughout the world and proposes a rule to increase transparency around CVC mixing to combat its use by malicious actors including Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). The NPRM is a key part of Treasury’s efforts to promote transparency for CVC mixing activities.

Taxpayers impacted by the terrorist attacks in Israel qualify for tax relief; Oct. 16 filing deadline, other dates postponed to Oct. 7, 2024

 WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today announced tax relief for individuals and businesses affected by the terrorist attacks in the State of Israel. These taxpayers now have until Oct. 7, 2024, to file various federal returns, make tax payments and perform other time-sensitive tax-related actions.

In Notice 2023-71, posted today on IRS.gov, the IRS provided relief to certain taxpayers who, due to the terrorist attacks, may be unable to meet a tax-filing or tax-payment obligation, or may be unable to perform other time-sensitive tax-related actions. The IRS will continue to monitor events and may provide additional relief.

Filing and Payment Relief

Today’s notice postpones various tax filing and payment deadlines that occurred or will occur during the period from Oct. 7, 2023, through Oct. 7, 2024 (postponement period). As a result, affected individuals and businesses will have until Oct. 7, 2024, to file returns and pay any taxes that were originally due during this period. Among other things, this includes:

• Individuals who had a valid extension to file their 2022 return due to run out on Oct. 16, 2023. The IRS noted, however, that because tax payments related to these 2022 returns were due on April 18, 2023, those payments are not eligible for this relief. So, these individuals filing on extension have more time to file, but not to pay.
• Calendar-year corporations whose 2022 extensions run out on Oct. 16, 2023. Similarly, these corporations have more time to file, but not to pay.
• 2023 individual and business returns and payments normally due on March 15 and April 15, 2024. So, these individuals and businesses have both more time to file and more time to pay.
• Quarterly estimated income tax payments normally due on Jan. 16, April 15, June 17 and Sept. 16, 2024.
• Quarterly payroll and excise tax returns normally due on Oct. 31, 2023, and Jan. 31, April 30 and July 31, 2024.
• Calendar-year tax-exempt organizations whose extensions run out on Nov. 15, 2023.
• Retirement plan contributions and rollovers.

Other tax-related deadlines are postponed as well. See Notice 2023-71 and Rev. Proc. 2018-58 for details.

In addition, the penalty for failure to make payroll and excise tax deposits due on or after Oct. 7, 2023 and before Nov. 6, 2023, will be abated as long as the deposits are made by Nov. 6, 2023.

Who Qualifies for Relief?

• Any individual whose principal residence or business entity or sole proprietor whose principal place of business is in Israel, the West Bank or Gaza (the covered area).
• Any individual, business or sole proprietor, or estate or trust whose books, records or tax preparer is located in the covered area.
• Anyone killed, injured, or taken hostage due to the terrorist attacks.
• Any individual affiliated with a recognized government or philanthropic organization and who is assisting in the covered area, such as a relief worker.

The IRS automatically identifies taxpayers whose principal residence or principal place of business is located in the covered area based on previously filed returns and applies relief. Other eligible taxpayers can obtain this relief by calling the IRS disaster hotline at 866-562-5227. Alternatively, international callers may call 267-941-1000.

If an affected taxpayer receives a late filing or late payment penalty notice from the IRS for the postponement period, the taxpayer should call the number on the notice to have the penalty abated.

PREDICCIÓN FISCAL SOBRE HAMAS

Y a su vez, porque la mayoría de los países de Medio Oriente se han opuesto a Israel a nivel existencial y político. Lo más probable es que esto provoque un retroceso político y económico por parte de estos países. Además, países como Rusia y, por extensión, China, están motivados a unirse en aras de tener influencia política. Esto probablemente conducirá a un aumento en el precio de materias primas como el gas, a medida que los mayores exportadores intenten aplicar la fuerza a Estados Unidos. Además, probablemente veremos un crecimiento en la división de nuestra nación a medida que los políticos discutan sobre a qué lado apoyar. Naturalmente, esto provocará incertidumbre en el mercado, lo que llevará a que la gente sea conservadora en sus compras y a los inversores a "retirar dinero" mientras el valor de sus acciones pende de un hilo. Todo esto conduce a un futuro incierto en el que nadie estará completamente satisfecho con lo que sucede.
