BOI STANDARDS FOR WORK

BOI: DO YOU MEET FINCEN STANDARDS?

Are you aware of BOI standards? The Beneficial Ownership Information report is a document about the "true" owners or controllers of a firm. FinCEN is the organization in charge of enforcing financial regulation, and to better do this, they have redefined the standards for reporting. Companies must now name the beneficial owners of a firm, or else face legal repercussions.

These regulations have been in effect since the beginning of 2024. However, there is a grace period involved for most companies. If your firm was created before 2024, then you will have up until January 1, 2025 to report BOI. If your company was created between Jan 1, 2024 and Jan 1 2025, then you must report 90 calendar days after you receive a notice that your firm registration is effective. If your company was created after Jan 1, 2025, then you must file 30 days after you receive a notice about your your firm creation going through. And naturally, you have 30 days to update any changes in the information you put into your BOI report.

Many people may feel stressed or worried about this change. However, we at 200GFS can help you with anything you may need. Call us today and we will walk you through the entire process. Make an appointment today and feel secure in your firm's future.

DON'T BELIVE IN THE CULT OF AI

Over the past years, droves of people have sung praises to AI as a technology. They say it is the future, something that will change the world like fire or electricity did. That the very concept of "work" will be revolutionized. Naturally, such these are mostly exaggerations.

In truth, AI is algorithms relating to a long string of calculus equations. It, as well as all software, can be thought of a list of automated instruction on how to turn a series of 0s and 1s into another series of 0s and 1s in ways that are useful to users. AI is no different. The way they are built is by training the intelligence to create an equation that will take in a prompt and output a result based on the most probable (read average) prediction on what the right answer might be. The AI is adjusted and trained better match outputs to desired inputs leading to programs like Leonardo.Ai or ChatGPT.

What these sites often fail to mention is the limitations of AI. A computer can only compute arithmetic sequences and use algorithms to compute algebraic and more complex mathematical concepts. Because of this, everything we must ask a computer to do must be first abstracted in numerical terms, and the code written to output a result that can then be converted back into a useful result. Image generating AIs are given massive libraries of art works in order to create their images. However, unlike inspiration in which there is lateral interpretations and extrapolation, an AI will respond to the prompt, "girl with blue hair" and create an image of a girl with blue hair, not because it understands what "girl", "blue", or "hair" is, but because in its library, there is an image that is label with those words, so that must be the most likely correct answer. This often means that the AI will simply return one of the works in its database, bit rendered as it was passed through a filter. This is, by even the standards of the US courts, not an original work but instead theft. Take into consideration that most artists did not consent to have their artwork used in these programs, and you have an industry bankrupt of innovation.

You might have noticed there have been a lack of talk about AI innovations. In fact, I would wager there is more work on the internet about the anxieties of AI rather than leaps in AI development. There is a reason for this. Because AI is biased towards average based results, most of the things done by AI trend towards the generic. In addition, AI does not understand anything, so when it is asked by, say edit a paper, it will more often than not alter in ways that make sense to a statistical system, but is bizarre and unnatural for a human to say or read, due to the idiosyncratic nature of human language. More relevantly, AI can be outright disastrous when it comes to legal documentation. We have talked before about the court case in which lawyers used ChatGPT to write their arguments and the software outputted fake cases, which ended up being used in an actual trial. You can imagine the judge's reaction when he found out. Because AI has no concept of "reality", it might quote information that is completely fictitious because it is statistically likely information like that might exist, which to the computer is the same as it existing.

People in the AI industry are people who benefit from people believing in the infinite potential of AI. But if AI was so revolutionary, why would these companies not change the world themselves but instead ask their clients to use the technology for them? Ultimately AI might not be a passing trend, but its hype will be.

CITY OF WESTON - NEWS

NEWS FROM THE CITY OF WESTON
October 17, 2023
Next City Commission Meeting: Monday, November 6
Open It and They Will Come
BSO Fire Rescue Open House a Huge Success
Over 1,000 people were estimated to have attended the BSO Fire Rescue Open House on Saturday, October 14 at the Bonaventure Fire Station No. 21 in Weston. There is something about fire trucks and firefighters that makes children smile, because everyone was having a great time. BSO Weston Fire Rescue is thrilled that the community took them up on their offer to come visit them in their home and learn valuable safety information while having a fun time.

Next up for BSO Weston Fire Rescue: ‘Chat with the Chief’ on Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Carolina Ale House.
How to Help
Israel-Gaza Conflict
Our hearts are with the Israeli people and innocent civilians throughout the entire region that are suffering, and people throughout the world that are affected by the violence with the subsequent loss of loved ones. When disaster strikes, it is our human nature to want to help.

If you are seeking ways to help, it is recommended to research the aid organizations to make sure your donation is going to a legitimate organization that has an active plan to provide the needed assistance. Social media is flooded with misinformation, so use caution.

The Federal Trade Commission recommends searching charities' names alongside "complaint," "review," "rating" and "scam" to see if any red flags come up. Another red flag would be if their website doesn't have detailed information about its mission and programs, or if you don't get a receipt after donating.

Use Charity Navigator to find reputable agencies such as the Jewish Federation, which provides help directly to those in need and through vetted and existing organizations on the ground, such as the Jewish Federation and Save the Children which is focused on the immediate emergency needs of children throughout the region.

These resources are helpful for any support you wish to give, for any sort of relief effort -- whether it is hurricane relief, wildfire recovery in Maui, the war in Ukraine, or the current conflict in Israel-Gaza.

Free Chlorine Disinfection in Drinking Water
October 18 - November 13
Starting tomorrow through November 13, the Sunrise Utility Department, which provides water to the City of Weston, will switch from monochloramine to free chlorine disinfection in its drinking water treatment system to provide additional protection against bacteria.

This procedure does not cause any adverse health effects; however, kidney dialysis centers and hospitals have been notified to make any adjustments as necessary. Also, some aquatic species may be sensitive to free chlorine, so if you maintain an aquarium you may wish to seek additional information on dechlorination from a pet supply store. Individuals may notice a slight change in the taste, odor or color of the water during this time.

Recycling at Home? Don't Bag It
Yes, we know that many manufacturers make bags specifically for recycling in your home, but we are pleading with you to NOT bag your recycling.

Why? Bagged recycling is not accepted by our solid waste provider, Republic Services, and by bagging your recycled products you are contaminating the recycling stream.

Reminders for Responsible Recycling:
Simply ensure that all your recycled items are clean and dry and drop them into your recycling cart. Items include aluminum cans, cardboard, paper (clean, dry and free of any food or grease/oil residue), glass jars or bottles and plastics #1 – 7.

Do not include plastic wrap (such as found around a case of bottled water) or plastic bags.
