Next Regular City Commission Meeting: Tuesday, January 17, 2023
5! ... 4! ... 3! ... 2! ... Happy New Year! There's no place we'd rather ring in the new year than right here in the City of Weston. In 2022 we marked new milestones, finished exciting new projects and welcomed new small businesses into our community. We took steps to building a safer, greener and healthier Weston last year and look forward to building on our progress in the coming year.

Wishing you and your family a healthy and happy 2023.
Toll-Relief Credit Program Begins for Commuters in Florida
Starting this week, driving on a toll road in Florida may not be as costly due to the State’s Toll Relief Program that went into effect on Jan. 1. Commuters will save money traveling on automated toll roads. Each electronic transponder with 35 or more paid transactions that occur within a calendar month will automatically receive a 50% toll credit – no registration required. The credit will be posted to accounts the following month.
Closest Unit Response Implementation Began December 7
Emergency Response Protocol in Broward County
In 2002, Broward County voters overwhelmingly approved a charter amendment to provide funding, communications, and infrastructure to address Priority 1 emergencies by dispatching fire-rescue personnel located closest to a call, regardless of municipal zone boundaries. On Dec. 6, 2022, BSO Fire Rescue and Emergency Services entered into the Closest Unit Response initiative as Broward’s third phase of implementation. This phase joins many other cities across the county.

Priority 1 emergencies are the most urgent needs for emergency services. This implementation sends the closest unit to the emergency regardless of where that unit is from. The City of Weston and BSO entered in to this initiative anticipating an enhanced delivery of emergency services to our service delivery areas.
When to Call the Non-Emergency Number for Police & Fire Response
954-764-HELP (4357)
Broward County’s Regional Communications System, (the System), is an essential component of emergency response operations in our county. The System guides law enforcement and fire rescue personnel to accomplish their roles efficiently and provide the best and most responsive service.

The System’s Non-Emergency Number, 954-764-HELP (4357), is answered by the same call-takers that answer emergency calls to 911. Unnecessary calls to the non-emergency number cause an undue burden on an already strained group of professionals. Many of the calls to the system are calls that should go to either 311 (which provides information on County services) or your city's government offices. Be sure to know what the Non-Emergency Number is supposed to be used for.

Looking to give your Christmas tree a second chance? Broward County’s annual Chip-a-Tree program at Markham Park, 16001 W. State Road 84, is taking place now through Monday, January 16, where Broward County residents can bring in a limit of two trees per vehicle and the trees will be chipped and used for landscaping throughout the county. Be sure to remove all lights and decorations!
Cart it!
Recycling and Garbage Items Belong in the Cart
Starting Monday, January 9, packaging materials – such as boxes and containers – left beside the recycling carts will not be collected. The truck automatically picks up the carts without human assistance and curbside items cannot be handled by the automated truck. Be sure to “cart your cardboard!” Break the boxes down and place them in the cart to be recycled.
