Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Observance Legislation signed in 1983 first marked the birthday of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as a Federal holiday. On this holiday, we reflect upon Dr. King's legacy of peace and perseverance. The peaceful protests he led were often met with violence, but he and his followers persisted to lead the civil rights movement. Following the powerful March on Washington in 1963, the movement led to two great successes the following year: the ratification of the 24th Amendment, which abolished the poll tax -- protecting the right to vote for many, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which effectively ended segregation and banned employment discrimination.
Today, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday is observed throughout the nation as a day of service - "a day on, not day off." The MLK Day of Service is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King's vision of a "Beloved Community." We encourage you to look for ways to give back to your community on this day.
Status of City Operation on Monday, January 17 All City administrative offices - City Hall, the Community Center, the Public Works Services Center, and the Building Department - will be closed. City parks will be open and will follow regular operating hours. There will be regular garbage and recycling service. |

Make a Clean Sweep in 2022! Bulk Trash Curbside Pickup and Household Hazardous Waste Event This Month Start the new year fresh. The next Quarterly Residential Bulk Trash curbside pickup takes place on your regular garbage collection day between Wednesday, January 26 through Friday, January 28 for single-family homes and others with curbside collection; and Saturday, January 29 for multi-family units with dumpsters. Bulk Trash includes appliances, vegetation from regular yard maintenance by the homeowner, mattresses, carpets, furniture and more! Glass items should be placed in a rigid container for safety. Household hazardous waste materials are not accepted in bulk trash pickup or in your regular garbage service collection.
